Rubbish, Rubbish, Rubbish, There is nothing on hun...

Around 9pm most evenings I sit down to catch up with Amanda (my wife, partner and friend) we discuss the days events, our sons day and our extended families comings and goings while I site with the remote control and flick.

The conversation slows and then dies.

Without warning or any control I start to speak in a uninterested and mono-toned voice. Arm outstretched and the word rubbish, rubbish, rubbish robotically falling out of my mouth.

Finally I wake from my hypnotic trance and turn to Amanda and speak the words I have come to dread.

"Hun there is nothing on"

100's of channels, hard drives full of movies and yet we can not decide what to watch.

A few years ago I came across TED. I think Tom a pal from work introduced me to the wonders of this site.

Why this wonderful, fun, and entertaining content is not broadcast on mainstream TV channels....Arggggh while tat like Big Brother et al fills our screens...arggghh. Well enough of a rant seriously check this out! Do it! You will be amazed!

Multitasking reality or myth

In any given day a Web / Designer has to:

1. Manage their time
2. Digest a huge amount of information
3. Learn new skills and apply them
4. Deal with complex issues
5. Be creative
6. Be judged

This all happens daily both internally and externally. Designers have become adapt in making a lot of things happen at the same time or have they?

How to measure time

cesium
chemical elementalso spelled caesium (Cs)

chemical element of Group 1 (also called Group Ia) of the periodic table, the alkali metal group, and the first element to be discovered spectroscopically (1860), by German scientists Robert Bunsen and Gustav Kirchhoff, who named it for the unique blue lines of its spectrum (Latin caesius, “sky-blue”).

Atomic cesium is employed in the world’s time standard, the cesium clock. The microwave spectral line emitted by the isotope cesium-133 has a frequency of 9,192,631,770 hertz (cycles per second). This provides the fundamental unit of time. Cesium clocks are so stable and accurate that they are reliable to 1 second in 1.4 million years. Primary standard cesium clocks, such as NIST-F1 in Boulder, Colo., are about as large as a railroad flatcar. Commercial secondary standards are suitcase-sized.

Currently there are 5 Atomic clocks around the world. 2 in Japan, 1 in the US, 1 in the UK and 1 in Germany.

Perhaps the following clocks are not as accurate but somehow they exude more charm, interest and fun.

Sea of Thought

Sea of Thought is a tool we've developed that searches blogs, twitter and various other sources for the words 'I think'. View by user defined searches, by date or simply live thoughts in four different views.

'Sea Scape' submerges you in an ocean of thought. Dive, swim and explore the depths within. 'Globe View' shows the world’s thoughts mapped onto a 3D globe. 'Map View' shows thoughts on a 2D map. 'Time Tunnel' allows the user to travel through time and find out who was thinking what, and when!

It was originally released to our clients as a xmas play thing, but is now in the public domain for all to enjoy!

Online Photoshop!

Not made by Adobe but a very handy tool for anyone on the move or for anyone who doesn't have £600 to shell for the real deal. Is online the way all apps are going to go?

iphone app store

We told you so. We predicted it, we knew it was coming, we told everyone but did they listen... Hell yeah!
Over 500 applications on launch day and more coming. This will be the platform for the next 5 years. We are seeing the same development and tech going into the iphone as we did with the ipod. Can Jobs do no wrong?

Yes he can.

What was he thinking about when Jobsy and Ives developed the Mac Book Air. Please give us a real 12" Mac Book Pro something that has grunt. But most importantly has shrunk in the important dimensions. The 15" MacBook Pro I use is only an inch thick I do not need a thinner laptop, I need one that is less wide and deep!

A perfect example of an online viral made flesh

Eton celebrates 80th anniversary with £23,000 shirt

Swedish shirt makers Eton have a long and proud history of dressing the world in the classiest shirts known to man. So it kinda seems only fair that they should celebrate their 80th anniversary by manufacturing what is being called “The World’s Most Expensive Shirt”. Created from the most luxuriant Egyptian cotton yarn, the celebratory shirt features colored diamond studs and white diamond-encrusted cufflinks which look rather dull and boring considering how the shirt comes with a price tag of a whopping £23,000. I would be interested to hear what people think in the current climate.

BiomeLifstyle Blog

Trawling through the vast jungle of Blogs out there it is a rare and rather special moment when we come across a really cool, interesting, fun and funky blog. Even more unusual is the approach to green issues. Biomelifestyle is an online shop selling all things eco-friendly and sustainable. Their site is cool but the blog is a real treat proving that the real innovation and the coolest people are indeed GREEN. Take a peek here Biome Blog
